River National Park: A First for Europe
Just a few days ago, the Albanian government took the first steps towards officially designating the Vjosa River a national park. Many river national parks already exist across the world, waterways which are fully protected from source to sea and are designated greater funding to ensure their continued conservation. A river national park in Europe will not only create new income opportunities from tourism, but also plant the seed for a more nature-orientated mindset among its peoples.
This news also means that we will be walking Europe’s first River National Park - something that our team are extremely excited about! Whilst this brings responsibility, it is also an opportunity to reconnect people with the rivers and the wilderness we still have in Europe, and put emphasis on this win for conservation.
